Challenge

Shops with 1 to 10 mechanics run on notebooks, spreadsheets and WhatsApp. The result: lost data, customers calling over and over to ask about their car, work done without written approval and no history when the customer comes back.

Solution

  • Customer and vehicle directory in one place.
  • Appointment calendar that turns into service orders.
  • Orders with strict states (received, diagnosing, awaiting approval, repairing, ready) and role-based permissions.
  • Password-free customer portal, with a secure link to follow the repair in real time.
  • Email notifications on every important change.
  • Isolation between shops with row-level security in PostgreSQL.

Outcome

MecaniQ is live, with a public demo and a 30-day free trial. It deploys as a single container with automatic migrations, has integration tests on critical flows and its architecture decisions are documented in 8 records (ADRs).

Why we built it

We saw up close how a small shop loses time and customers without records: the history lives in the owner’s memory.

What it is built with

  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL
  • Docker
