Challenge

A link shortener is useful when it tells you where clicks come from. The challenge was to measure that without storing IP addresses or using third-party cookies, with a simple yet production-ready deployment.

Solution

  • 7-character short codes and dynamic QR codes.
  • Analytics by source, device and country with daily aggregation: instead of the IP, a hashed fingerprint that changes every day.
  • Accounts with email verification and bot protection.
  • Dashboard with charts and CSV and JSON export.
  • Light and dark themes, mobile-friendly.

Outcome

Lynk is live, with a public demo. It deploys as a container with automatic migrations.

Why we built it

Most shorteners track too much. We wanted to show you can measure what is useful without storing personal data.

What it is built with

  • Django
  • PostgreSQL
  • Tailwind CSS
  • Docker
